National Director, Denials Management, Kindred at Home
Patricia Hanks, MS, BSN, RN, is the National Director for the Denials Management Department for Kindred at Home. She has nearly 30 years of multi-state home health clinical and operational experience and has held a variety of leadership positions throughout her career. In 2014, Patricia was responsible for the development and implementation of the Audit and Revenue Recovery Department at Kindred. Since the acquisition of Gentiva, she has expanded the department to respond to audits and appeals for the 350+ locations at Kindred at Home. This expansion included the further development of the department by implementing best practices, and overseeing and directing the ongoing planning and organization of the audit and appeals process across the company. She led her team in the development of the workflow process that ensures all audit requests and appeal determinations are responded to timely and effectively. She is responsible for taking the process full circle by preparing and leading the argument for payment at the Administrative Law Judge (ALJ) level. Patricia wrote the chapter on audits and appeals for the textbook Handbook of Home Health Care Administration, 6th Edition, and she served on the review committee for the American Nursing Association's Home Health Nursing: Scope and Standards of Practice, 2nd Edition.
